Isparta Süleyman Demirel Airport Aerodrome Chart (AIP AD 2 LTFC ADC)

Isparta Süleyman Demirel Airport (IATA: ISE, ICAO: LTFC) is a regional airport in the Lakes Region of south-western Türkiye, located 35 km from Isparta and 30 km from Burdur. It is a permanent border gate (customs and immigration H24) and sees heavy VFR training activity.

The airport has a single runway, 05/23 (3,000 m × 45 m, concrete), at an elevation of 2,835 ft. The transition altitude is 15,000 ft. The airport and ATS operate H24.

The military airfield Kılıç (LTFN) lies right next to the airport: its runway 13/31 and Kılıç TWY D are linked with RWY 05/23, and the Kılıç CTR is nested inside the northern half of the Isparta CTR. There is high terrain all around the field (MSA 12,000–13,700 ft) and Lake Burdur lies to the south-west. Note that, due to magnetic variation, the runway should really be designated 04/22, but it was kept as 05/23 to avoid confusion with Kılıç's 04/22 runway, only 1,400 m away (AD 2.23).

Preferential Runway System (PRS)

The AIP does not publish a Preferential Runway System for LTFC. The runway in use is selected by Isparta Tower according to the surface wind, traffic and the available procedures, and is announced on the ATIS.

Things to keep in mind when the runway is chosen:

  • All instrument approaches are to RWY 05 (LOC only Z RWY 05, VOR Z RWY 05) or are circling-only (NDB A). There is no instrument approach to RWY 23.
  • RWY 05 has a precision approach lighting system (Calvert, CAT I, 900 m); RWY 23 has no approach lighting. Both runways have PAPI 3° on the left side.
  • Circling is not authorised north of the aerodrome unless specifically instructed by Isparta Tower.
  • SIDs are published for both runways (1G from RWY 05, 1Q from RWY 23).

Arrival Procedures

Isparta Süleyman Demirel lies inside the Antalya TMA and has its own control zone. Approach service is provided by Isparta Tower within the CTR and by Antalya Approach outside the CTR (AD 2.17). The approach charts list Antalya Approach on 124.350. All STAR and approach procedures are conventional and based on the IPT VOR/DME (117.5 MHz) — there are no RNAV procedures.

  • Isparta CTR: 10 NM radius centred on 375056N 0302158E (joined at the west). In the semicircle south of the line 374439N 0301210E – 375737N 0303123E it extends from SFC to 11,000 ft AMSL; in the semicircle north of that line it extends from 8,000 ft to 11,000 ft AMSL, with the Kılıç CTR (LTFN) below it up to 8,000 ft.
  • Traffic approaching on radials R231–R049 (the northern side) contacts Kılıç Tower if at or below 8,000 ft, and Isparta Tower if above 8,000 ft up to 11,000 ft.
  • All other helicopters and aircraft departing from within the Isparta CTR (other than from Isparta Airport) must contact Isparta Tower on 118.650 just before or as soon as possible after departure, due to intense VFR activity.
  • Expect TCAS indications due to heavy VFR training flights at and around the airport, and dust/sand whirls in the vicinity of the airport (approach chart cautions).
  • Birds: Lake Burdur, a breeding and wintering area 4,700 m from the RWY 05 threshold (south-west), has storks and flamingos all year round, ruddy ducks January–May and wild geese April–January, up to 1,500 m AGL. Doves and pigeons are seen around the terminal and tower all year (up to 50 m AGL) (AD 2.23, BRD).

Runways and ILS

23 – – – 3° / 48 ft 2,835 ft No approach lighting, no instrument approach

Other navaids: IPT VOR/DME 117.5 MHz (CH122X, coverage 75 NM) and IPT NDB 349 kHz (coverage 100 NM), co-located about 0.6 NM south-west of the RWY 05 threshold.

STARs

There is one conventional STAR chart (STAR-1, based on IPT VOR), valid for both runways. All STARs end at the IPT VOR at 10,000 ft. The entry fix must be the last point of your flight-planned route.

Active Runway Configuration STAR Route Altitude
RWY 05 and RWY 23 BABSA 1N BABSA (IPT R-346/D10.56) → IPT 10,000 ft
PELIL 1N PELIL (IPT R-263/D5.33) → track 083° → IPT 10,000 ft
EKSEN 1N EKSEN (IPT R-074/D15.74) → track 254° → IPT 10,000 ft

Airways at the entry fixes (as charted): W110 at PELIL (10,000 ft), M855/UM855 (FL200) and A16/UA16 (FL120) near EKSEN.

RWY 05 / RWY 23

After reaching IPT at 10,000 ft, expect to hold or to continue directly into the approach procedure (outbound on IPT R-225). The holding at IPT is inbound 225°, left turns, minimum 10,000 ft, maximum holding speed IAS 230 KT.

Expect the LOC only Z RWY 05 (or VOR Z RWY 05). Check the ATIS for the approach in use.

Radio Failure

The general procedures in Türkiye AIP ENR 1.3-4.5 apply; AD 2 LTFC publishes no specific IFR radio failure procedure.

For VFR aircraft with radio failure (AD 2.22): squawk 7600, keep VMC and approach the airport for landing without infringing the IFR arrival/departure routes and the runways. Hold at the downwind position south of the airport, flying the holding away from the runways, and follow the light (ALDIS lamp) signals from the Tower. The pilot shall call Isparta Tower by mobile phone (+90 246 559 20 08 / 7000) and receive traffic instructions on that line.

Ground Operations

Ground Layout

The airport has a single runway, 05/23, and a single taxiway, TWY A (23 m wide), which connects the middle of the runway with Apron A. There is no parallel taxiway; the runway has turning pads at both ends. Taxiway signs are lit; there are no stop bars or runway guard lights. TWY edge lighting only (no centreline lights).

The Kılıç (LTFN) military runway (31 end) and military taxiway join RWY 05/23 near the RWY 05 threshold. The RWY 23 turning pad (also the de-icing area) and the apron in front of the hangar building are jet engine test areas.

Apron, Gates and Stands

Aircraft Parking/Docking Chart (AIP AD 2 LTFC PRKG)

Apron A

Apron A is in front of the terminal and has stands 1–6 and 6A–6D (stands are arranged at 90°; guidelines are painted, no visual docking guidance is published).

  • Stands 1 and 6: up to A300-600.
  • Stands 2, 3, 4, 5: up to B737-800.
  • Stands 6A, 6B, 6C, 6D: at the eastern end of the apron, next to the hangar apron (no aircraft type published).
  • When a Category E or larger aircraft is parked on stand 1, wide-body vehicles cannot use the service road west of stand 1.
  • Four-engine aircraft must shut down their outer engines while taxiing and make their turns at low speed (FOD and jet blast risk).

Helicopters

Helicopter parking areas H1–H7 must not be used for landing or take-off; helicopters use RWY 05/23 and the apron for landing and take-off. Helicopters coming for maintenance may, on request, land in front of the hangar under pilot/company responsibility.

De-icing

De-icing is available H24 on prior request. The de-icing area is on the RWY 23 turning pad (ADC).

Planning Taxi Time

Taxi distances are short: TWY A leads directly from Apron A to the middle of the runway. For a full-length departure you will usually have to backtrack on the runway to the threshold and turn on the turning pad, which takes runway occupancy time.

ATIS

Isparta Information is broadcast on 129.025 MHz. Always copy the ATIS before calling Ground.

Obtaining Clearance

There is no separate Delivery position. Call Isparta Ground (121.7) for your ATC clearance. In your initial call, include your callsign, stand, destination and the ATIS letter you have received.

Do not request start-up earlier than 30 minutes before your planned departure time (AD 2.22, applies to IFR and VFR).

Pushback and Engine Start

Call Ground with your callsign and stand number when you are fully ready. Ground will either clear you or ask you to standby.

  • Non-scheduled flights: health service PPR 2 hours; handling on prior request.
  • General aviation flights (except VIP, ambulance, emergency, SAR and fire-fighting aircraft) must obtain approval from the Airport Directorate at least 3 hours in advance and write in item 18 (RMK) of the flight plan that coordination has been established.
  • Aircraft frequency tests are done on 121.700 (Ground) between 0530–1600 UTC and on 118.650 (Tower) between 1600–0530 UTC.

Taxi Procedures

Departures taxi from Apron A via TWY A to the runway. The intersection with TWY A gives 1,500 m of take-off distance in either direction; a full-length departure needs a backtrack (see above).

Runway Intersection TORA TODA ASDA LDA

Minimum Runway Occupancy Time for Departures

AD 2.20 for LTFC contains no runway occupancy or pilot reaction time rules. Its local regulations cover ELT tests, frequency tests, four-engine taxi, helicopter use, engine test areas, technical failure reports, training flights (only flight training organisations with a protocol with the Airport Directorate may train in the Isparta CTR; military training excepted), general aviation coordination and UPRT flights (evaluated by ATC if stated in the flight plan).

High Elevation

With an aerodrome elevation of 2,835 ft, a reference temperature of 32 °C and high terrain all around, check your take-off performance and the 5% SID climb gradients (up to 9,000 ft or 11,000 ft) carefully.

SIDs

There are two conventional SID charts based on IPT VOR/DME. SIDs end at PELIL (IPT R-263/D5.33, airway W110) and EKSEN (IPT R-074/D15.74, airways M855/UM855 and A16/UA16), which must be the first point of your flight-planned route.
