Çukurova International Airport Aerodrome Chart (AIP AD 2 LTDB ADC)

Çukurova International Airport (ICAO: LTDB) serves the Adana–Mersin region in southern Türkiye. It is located 40 km south-west of Adana and 56 km north-east of Mersin. The airport is open H24 for IFR and VFR traffic and has a border gate (customs and immigration H24).

The airport has two parallel runways, 03R/21L (3,500 m × 60 m) and 03L/21R (3,500 m × 45 m). Only 03R/21L is used as a runway by civil aircraft; 03L/21R is used as a taxiway and is used as a runway for landing and take-off only in emergencies or when 03R/21L is closed for maintenance. Elevation is 25 ft and the transition altitude is 10,000 ft.

There is one passenger terminal on Apron 1 and a smaller Apron 2 to the north (next to the General Aviation area on the ADC); the cargo terminal is at the south-west end of Apron 1. Approach service is provided by Çukurova Tower inside the Çukurova CTR and by İncirlik Approach outside it. The airport is close to bird migration routes: flocks of birds are sometimes seen east of RWY 03R/21L at about 1,300–1,500 ft.

Runway in Use

The AIP does not publish a Preferential Runway System (PRS) for LTDB. In normal operations RWY 03R/21L is the only runway in use (AD 2.12, AD 2.20 item 17), and the direction (03R or 21L) is selected by ATC according to the surface wind and traffic, and broadcast on the ATIS. RWY 03L/21R is used as a parallel taxiway while 03R/21L is in use, and becomes a runway only in emergencies or when 03R/21L is closed for maintenance.

Expect RWY 03R or RWY 21L. Check the ATIS (Çukurova Information 123.225) for the runway in use.

Arrival Procedures

Çukurova is located inside the Adana MTMA. The RNAV (GNSS) STARs (STAR-3 for RWY 03L/R, STAR-4 for RWY 21L/R) require RNP 1; if you cannot comply, advise ATC. Conventional STARs based on the CKR VOR/DME (STAR-1 and STAR-2, VOR or NDB and DME required) also exist.

  • ATC will clear you to execute the relevant approach procedure before IFOZI (RWY 03) or before YELZU (RWY 21) — these are the intermediate fixes (IF) of the RNAV approaches.
  • Descent on all RNAV STARs is "as cleared"; plan your descent to meet the charted level and speed restrictions.
  • An aircraft vacating RWY 03R/21L via a rapid exit taxiway has priority over aircraft taxiing on RWY 03L/21R and the other taxiways at the intersections. Give way to aircraft vacating via a rapid exit unless instructed otherwise.
  • After landing on RWY 03R/21L, proceed onto RWY 03L/21R (used as taxiway) without holding at the runway holding points, unless instructed otherwise by the Tower.
  • Never cross a runway without a clear ATC clearance or instruction.
  • Circling approaches are not authorised south of the aerodrome.

Low Visibility

Both RWY 03R and RWY 21L have an ILS CAT II with CAT II precision approach lighting (900 m). The CAT II approaches are ILS X CAT II RWY 03R (IAC-9) and ILS X CAT II RWY 21L (IAC-10). In low visibility conditions a Follow-me service is provided by the operator on Apron 1.

Runways and ILS

Runway ILS (LLZ) Frequency / DME Category GP / RDH THR elevation Notes
03R ICKR 108.35 MHz / CH20Y CAT II 3.0° / 53 ft 16 ft Main runway. Precision approach lighting CAT II (900 m). TORA/LDA 3,500 m.
21L ICKU 108.55 MHz / CH22Y CAT II 3.0° / 54 ft 25 ft Main runway. Precision approach lighting CAT II (900 m). TORA/LDA 3,500 m.
03L – – – PAPI 3° 16 ft Normally used as taxiway. RNP Z and VOR Z/NDB Z approaches only.
21R – – – PAPI 3° 25 ft Normally used as taxiway. RNP Z and VOR Z/NDB Z approaches only.

Other navaids: CKR VOR/DME 113.7 MHz (CH84X) and CKR NDB 320 kHz, both on the airport. The ADA VOR (112.7 MHz, CH74X) is used on the RNAV SIDs.

STARs

STARs start at KEMER, MANAZ, YAPZU and MILBA (the RNAV and conventional STARs use the same four entry points). These fixes should be the last point of your flight-planned route.

RNAV STARs RWY 21L/R (AIP AD 2 LTDB STAR-4)

Conventional STARs (STAR-1 / STAR-2)

The conventional STARs follow CKR VOR/DME radials inbound to the CKR VOR/NDB: KEMER (R-333, track 153°), MANAZ (R-268, track 088°), YAPZU (R-247, track 067°) and MILBA (R-080, track 260°). Designators are 1H for RWY 03L/R and 1K for RWY 21L/R. Level restrictions are charted at CKR DME fixes (e.g. 5,000 ft at D10 CKR on all routes). The CKR holding is at 3,000 ft (RWY 03: inbound 221°; RWY 21: inbound 030°). See the charts for the full restrictions.

Instrument Approaches

The RNAV approaches and the ILS Y approaches start at the STAR end points IFOZI (RWY 03) and YELZU (RWY 21). The ILS Z, ILS X and VOR/NDB approaches start overhead the CKR VOR/NDB with a base turn (max 185 KT IAS).

Radio Failure

The procedures in Türkiye AIP ENR 1.3-4.5 apply. For IFR flights executing an RNP procedure (AD 2.22):

  • RWY 03R (STAR-3): proceed to YAPZU, LUFAD or ALLEG according to the STAR being flown; in compliance with ENR 1.3-4.5.4, hold over these fixes if required until commencement of descent, then fly the RNP approach and land.
  • RWY 21L (STAR-4): arrivals via KEMER or MILBA proceed to YELZU; arrivals via YAPZU or MANAZ proceed to OLOLA. Hold over the designated holding fixes if required until commencement of descent, then fly the RNP approach and land.

Ground Operations

Ground Layout

In normal operations RWY 03R/21L is the only active runway and RWY 03L/21R is used as a parallel taxiway. TWYs A (north end) and G (south end) and the link taxiways B, C, D, E and F connect 03R/21L with 03L/21R; B, C, E and F are rapid exit taxiways (with RETIL). TWYs B1, C1 and D1 connect 03L/21R with the aprons (B1 to Apron 2, C1 and D1 to Apron 1). Stop bars and runway guard lights are installed on TWYs A, B, C, D, E, F and G for RWY 03R/21L.

  • TWY B1 is limited to Code C aircraft.
  • On Apron 1 the three taxilanes are colour-coded: K (Orange), Z (Yellow) and V (Blue). K and V are for Code C aircraft only (max wingspan 36 m); all wide-body aircraft use Z (Yellow).

  • Narrow-body (Code C) aircraft for stands 101–109 and 305L/R–308L/R use the V (Blue) centreline; for stands 201–218 and 401–405 the K (Orange) centreline; for stands 301–304 the Z (Yellow) centreline. All wide-body aircraft use Z (Yellow).
  • Enter and leave the stands on Apron 1 and Apron 2 with the lowest possible engine power.

Apron 2

Apron 2 is north of Apron 1 and is reached via TWY B1 (Code C max).

  • Code C: 501–505; Code B: 506–512; Code A: 601–609.
  • Parking and push-back on Apron 2 are planned by ATC according to aircraft type.

De-icing

De-icing facilities are not available at LTDB (AD 2.4).

Hot Spots

Hot Spot Location Caution
HS1 TWYs B, C, D / RWY 03L/21R Risk of collision between aircraft vacating RWY 03R/21L via B, C or D and aircraft taxiing on RWY 03L/21R
HS2 TWY B1 – Apron 2 entrance Risk of collision at the Apron 2 entrance; TWY B1 is intended for use by training aircraft
HS3 TWYs B1 and C1 Risk of incursion onto B1 and C1 from the equipment parking area
HS4 Apron 1, TWYs K, Z, V Risk of collision with service roads crossing TWYs K, Z and V
HS5 Apron 1, TWY D1 Risk of collision with service roads crossing TWY D1
HS6 ARFF emergency exit roads Risk of runway incursion
HS7 TWYs E and F / RWY 03L/21R Risk of collision between aircraft vacating RWY 03R/21L via E or F and aircraft taxiing on RWY 03L/21R

Planning Taxi Time

All traffic taxis via RWY 03L/21R (used as taxiway):

  • RWY 03R: departures taxi south on 03L/21R to TWY G (or intersections F / E).
  • RWY 21L: departures taxi north on 03L/21R to TWY A (or intersections B / C).

ATIS

Çukurova Information is broadcast on 123.225 MHz (H24). It includes the runway in use, the expected approach, weather and transition level. Always copy the ATIS before calling for clearance.

Obtaining Clearance

There is no separate Delivery position in the AIP. Pilots of departing aircraft must contact Çukurova Tower on 120.8 MHz for ATC clearance 10 minutes before start-up (AD 2.20 item 6). In your initial call, include your callsign, stand, destination and the ATIS letter you have received.

The APU may be started at most 10 minutes before engine start.

Pushback and Engine Start

  • Push-back will not be given to traffic whose transponder is not on and active.
  • ATC considers you ready for push-back when all doors are closed, the aircraft is fully disconnected from the stand (bridge or stairs) and the push-back tug is connected and you are ready for engine start.
  • After receiving push-back and start-up approval, start push-back within 60 seconds, otherwise ATC may cancel it and give you a new estimated start-up time.
  • If there is no radio contact between the flight crew and the push-back operator, tell Çukurova ATC.
  • Unless ATC instructs otherwise, push-back direction on Apron 1 is:
    • 101, 103–108: onto the V (Blue) centreline. 102 and 109: wide-bodies onto Z (Yellow), narrow-bodies onto V (Blue). When 109 pushes towards RWY 03, traffic entering Apron 1 from TWY C1 holds at C1-HP4.
    • 201–218: onto the K (Orange) centreline; 201/202 must not pass K-HP8, 217/218 must not pass K-HP5. When 218 pushes towards RWY 03, traffic from C1 holds at C1-HP4 and traffic on V from the 03 to the 21 direction holds at V-HP6.
    • 301: long push-back along Z (Yellow) to Z-HP9; if needed, only Code C or smaller may push normally to heading 21. 303, 304: along Z to Z-HP12 (facing 21) or to Z-HP9 (facing 03).
    • 305L/R–308L/R: onto V (Blue). 305–308: onto Z (Yellow).
    • 401–405: onto K (Orange); 401 is a long push-back to K-HP8, 402–405 must not pass K-HP11.
  • Ground handling is responsible for push-back direction, wing clearances and taxiway safety distances on the K, Z and V taxilanes. Flight crews are responsible for wing-tip separation.

Taxi Procedures

Departures taxi from Apron 1 via C1 or D1 (Apron 2 via B1) onto RWY 03L/21R (used as taxiway) and then to the RWY 03R or 21L holding point. ATC may instruct aircraft to cross each other's path on Apron 1: the aircraft being passed must be stationary, and the moving aircraft is responsible for avoiding it. If in doubt, stop, report to ATC and wait for instructions. Strictly follow ATC instructions and all apron/taxiway signs and markings, and comply with readback/hearback procedures. Intersection departures are available (AD 2.13):
