Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport (IATA: GZP, ICAO: LTFG) serves Alanya and the eastern part of the Antalya coast. It is located 40 km east of Alanya, right on the Mediterranean shoreline, with high mountainous terrain immediately north and east of the field. The airport is operated by TAV Gazipaşa Alanya Havalimanı İşletmeciliği A.Ş.
The airport has a single runway, 08/26 (2,350 m × 45 m, concrete), at an elevation of 126 ft. The transition altitude is 15,000 ft. Because of the terrain, Gazipaşa is a special airport in every sense:
- RWY 08 is used for landing only and RWY 26 for take-off only (AD 2.13, AD 2.22).
- The runway is classified as a "non-instrument runway" intended for aircraft using an instrument approach procedure to a point beyond which the approach may continue in visual meteorological conditions (AD 2.12, AD 2.22). There is no ILS glide path – only a localizer (LOC ONLY), NDB/DME and RNP approaches.
- The aerodrome is classified as Category C (EU OPS 1 AMC OPS 1.975). Commercial operators with aircraft of 20 or more passenger seats need a special flight permission, including a Special Go-Around Procedure (SGAP) and simulator training (see Special Airport Requirements).
- Gazipaşa-Alanya shall not be selected as an alternate aerodrome (take-off, en-route or destination).
- Circling is not authorised north of the aerodrome.
The aerodrome reference code is 4D. There is one apron in front of the terminal with stands 1–6 (plus 1A–4A), connected to the runway by TWYs A and B. There is no parallel taxiway.

Preferential Runway System (PRS)
The AIP does not publish a Preferential Runway System for LTFG. Instead, runway use is fixed by AD 2.22:
ATC allocates RWY 08 for landing and RWY 26 for departing traffic as the runway in use. (AD 2.22 item 5)
- RWY 08 has no declared take-off distances and RWY 26 has no declared landing distance (AD 2.13: RWY 08 LDA 2,350 m "for landing"; RWY 26 TORA/TODA/ASDA 2,350 m "for take off").
- RWY 26 or RWY 08 may be allocated for departures only to traffic operating without passengers and cargo that has been permitted by the Turkish DGCA under AD 2.22 item 4.
- Using a runway other than the one designated by ATC is only possible if the pilot-in-command clearly states the selection to ATC and accepts the responsibility.
- There is no published tailwind limit: the maximum tailwind component for landing is determined by the aircraft operator, and the responsibility for landing under these conditions lies with the operator and the pilot-in-command (AD 2.22 item 6).
In practice this means all arrivals land on RWY 08 (towards the east, from over the sea) and all departures take off from RWY 26 (towards the west, out over the sea), regardless of the wind direction.
Arrival Procedures
Gazipaşa lies inside the Gazipaşa TMA, next to the Antalya TMA. Per AD 2.17, approach service is provided by (a) Antalya APP, (b) Gazipaşa TWR when required or when transferred by Antalya APP. The STAR and approach charts list Antalya (AYT) APP 120.225 / 126.025.
There are two families of RNAV (GNSS) STARs for RWY 08 (both RNP 1 required), plus one conventional STAR:
- 1C STARs (STAR-2) lead to the LOC ONLY RWY 08 approach (IAC-3). Aircraft requesting the LOC ONLY approach must inform Antalya APP on first contact with the phrase "Request LOC ONLY Approach RWY 08".
- 1D STARs (STAR-3) lead to the RNP RWY 08 approach (IAC-4). Aircraft requesting the RNAV (GNSS) approach must inform Antalya APP on first contact with the phrase "Request RNAV Approach RWY 08".
- EVKOR 1B (STAR-1) is a conventional arrival to the GZP NDB.
| Runway | Use | Approach aid | Frequency / DME | THR elevation | Lighting | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 08 | Landing only (LDA 2,350 m) | LLZ IGZP (no glide path) | 108.5 MHz / CH22X | 52 ft | Simple approach lighting 420 m (all flashing), PAPI 3° (left), RTIL, centreline/edge | IGZP LLZ/DME unusable beyond 10° of the nominal inbound track due to mountains; caution advised outside this area. |
| 26 | Take-off only (TORA/TODA/ASDA 2,350 m) | – | – | 126 ft | No approach lighting; centreline/edge | Turning area at the RWY 26 end (ADC) |
Other navaids: GZP NDB 316 kHz and GZP DME CH89X (114.2), co-located north of the runway (361815.8N 0321751.0E). GZP NDB is not to be used between 320°–120°; GZP DME is not to be used between 301°–159°.
STARs
RNAV STARs start at UTUSO, ELROP and BATNU; the conventional STAR starts at EVKOR. On the charts, Antalya traffic reaches UTUSO from AYT and ELROP from MUT.

There is no UTUSO 1D: UTUSO is itself an IAF of the RNP RWY 08 approach (9,000 ft or above). No speed limits are published on the RNAV STARs.
RNAV STARs RWY 08
The 1C arrivals all join BEPTO (IF, 3,200 ft or above, 12 DME GZP), from where the final approach track is 077° to EVBUM (FAF, at 2,000 ft). The 1D arrivals end at the RNP IAFs ROKDU or ETPUX and continue on the RNP RWY 08 approach via BEPTO. Holdings are charted at UTUSO (minimum 9,000 ft, inbound 118°) and BEPTO (minimum 3,200 ft, inbound 077°).
MSA (25 NM around IF BEPTO, on the RNAV charts): divided along the 120°/300° line – 10,000 ft on the northern (land) side and 3,000 ft on the southern (sea) side.
For radio failure on the RNAV procedures see Radio Failure (AD 2.22).
Conventional STAR
EVKOR 1B (STAR-1): from EVKOR (36°25'44"N 032°00'00"E, 293° of GZP NDB / 16.23 DME, reached via airway T336) fly track 113° at 7,500 ft to the GZP NDB and hold (minimum 7,500 ft, inbound 070°, outbound 250°). Continue with the NDB or NDB/DME approach (IAC-1 / IAC-2).
Instrument Approaches
All approaches are to RWY 08. Straight-in minima exist only for the LOC ONLY and RNP approaches; the NDB and NDB/DME procedures are circling only (straight-in not authorised). All approach charts carry the caution: (1) Circling not authorised north of the aerodrome; (2) refer to AD 2.22 for special flight procedures and crew qualification.

Note that all missed approaches turn right, out over the sea (south), away from the terrain north of the field. Operators flying to LTFG must additionally have their own Special Go-Around Procedure (SGAP) for a one-engine-inoperative go-around below the OCA(H) (see below).
Special Airport Requirements (AD 2.22)
These rules come from AD 2.22 and the DGCA flight permission forms published with it (AD 2 LTFG-8 to -12). They are real-world operator requirements, but they explain how Gazipaşa is flown:
- All operations to/from Gazipaşa-Alanya are under the responsibility of aircraft operators and pilots-in-command.
- Commercial Air Transport operators using aircraft with 20 or more passenger seats, or wanting to take off from RWY 08 without passengers and cargo, must meet the DGCA Flight Permission Process and submit the letter of undertaking to the DGCA at least 1 working day before the first planned flight. General aviation operators (ICAO Annex 6 Part 2) and commercial operations with fewer than 20 seats are exempt (under operator/PIC responsibility).
- Because of the surrounding terrain and the high approach minima, the operator must define a decision height for the one-engine-inoperative landing/go-around decision below the OCA(H) and prepare a Special Go-Around Procedure (SGAP) (balked landing), trained in the simulator by the pilot-in-command, for an engine failure on either side. SGAP obstacle clearance: at least 50 m (165 ft) within a corridor of 900 m half-width from the turn point; do not accelerate before the turn is completed or below 2,500 ft MSL (whichever is later).
- Line Flight Under Supervision (LFUS) is not permitted at Gazipaşa-Alanya. Landing shall be executed only on RWY 08 by the commander.
- Only RWY 26 is used for take-off and a take-off alternate is required.
- Gazipaşa-Alanya shall not be chosen as destination, en-route, take-off or emergency alternate.
- VFR flights to Gazipaşa apply the visual flight rules in ENR 1.2.
Radio Failure
For IFR flights executing the RNP procedure to RWY 08 (AD 2.22, AD 2 LTFG-13; referenced from STAR-2/3 and IAC-4):
- At or after the IF (BEPTO): continue the approach, execute the RNP procedure and land.
- Before the IF (BEPTO), at or above 11,000 ft: select transponder code 7600. Follow the flight plan route using the last assigned and acknowledged flight level/altitude. Within 25 DME of GZP NDB/DME, proceed direct to the GZP NDB descending to/maintaining 11,000 ft. Leave 11,000 ft at GZP NDB, execute the instrument approach procedure and land.
- Before the IF (BEPTO), below 11,000 ft: climb to 11,000 ft following the RNP procedure laterally, then proceed direct to the GZP NDB maintaining 11,000 ft. Leave 11,000 ft at GZP NDB, execute the instrument approach procedure and land.
Ground Operations
Ground Layout
Gazipaşa has a single runway, 08/26, and no parallel taxiway. Two taxiways connect the runway with the apron on the south side:
- TWY A (23 m wide) – at midfield (the ARP is at the intersection of the runway and TWY A). Stop bars are available only on TWY A.
- TWY B (18 m wide) – east of TWY A, towards the RWY 26 threshold. TWY B may only be used by aircraft with code letter "C" and a wheelbase of less than 18 m. Do not exceed 30 KT when exiting the runway onto TWY B. (AD 2.20)
There is a turning area at the RWY 26 end. As the runway is landing-08 / departure-26 only and there is no parallel taxiway, expect to backtrack on the runway as instructed by ATC.
Apron and Stands
There is a single concrete apron (PCN 77 R/C/X/T, elevation 30 m) in front of the terminal, with stands 1, 1A, 2, 2A, 3, 3A, 4, 4A, 5 and 6.
- According to the PRKG chart, stands 1A and 2A are marked for the B757-200; the other stands are marked for the B737-900.
- Stand 3 shall not be used while an aircraft is parked on stand 2A. (AD 2.20)
- Standard visual markings are available; no visual docking/parking guidance system.
- A holding position marked "C-HP" is on the apron taxilane just east of the TWY A entry (PRKG/ADC); its use is not described in the AIP text.
- There are no de-icing facilities, no hangar space and no repair facilities for visiting aircraft. Fuel: JET A-1 (by tanker). Fire fighting category: 7.
Planning Taxi Time
Taxi distances are short (single apron, two taxiways), but departures need to enter the runway and backtrack to the RWY 26 threshold, which blocks the runway for arrivals.
ATIS
Gazipaşa Information is broadcast on 120.950 MHz during aerodrome hours. Always copy the ATIS before calling ATC.
Operating Hours
ATS, customs, fuelling, handling and the AIS/ARO offices operate as AD working hours; AD administration hours are by NOTAM (AD 2.3). The MET office is H24.
Obtaining Clearance
There is no separate Delivery position in AD 2.18; the published units are Gazipaşa TWR, Ground and Gazipaşa Information. Include your callsign, stand, destination and the ATIS letter in your initial call.
Pushback and Engine Start
Call Ground with your callsign and stand number when you are fully ready. Ground will either clear you or ask you to standby.
Taxi Procedures
Departures taxi from the apron via TWY A or TWY B (B only for code C aircraft with a wheelbase below 18 m) and enter the runway for RWY 26. Arrivals vacate RWY 08 via TWY B (max 30 KT, code C / wheelbase < 18 m) or TWY A, or as instructed by ATC. No intersection take-off distances are published.
Phraseology to be Used for Taxi
Pilot: Gazipaşa Ground, THY2RK, stand 3, request taxi.
GND: THY2RK, Gazipaşa Ground, taxi to holding point runway 26 via B.
