Hatay Airport Aerodrome Chart (AIP AD 2 LTDA ADC)

Hatay Airport (IATA: HTY, ICAO: LTDA) serves the province of Hatay in southern Türkiye. It is located 27 km north-east of Hatay, close to the Turkish/Syrian border, and is a border gate (customs and immigration H24). Both IFR and VFR traffic are permitted.

The airport has a single runway, 04/22 (2,720 m × 45 m, concrete), with one taxiway (B4) linking it to a single apron. Elevation is 259 ft and the transition altitude is 10,000 ft. There is no ILS: the only navaids are the co-located HTY VOR/DME and HTY NDB, and the published instrument approaches are NDB/VOR approaches (DME required).

The airport sits on the eastern Mediterranean bird migration route and is surrounded by high terrain (the MSA is 7,000–8,000 ft). Every SID, STAR and approach chart carries the caution "Turkish / Syrian border shall not be violated". Due to the geographical characteristics of the airport and its proximity to the border, IFR and VFR training flights are not permitted.

Preferential Runway System (PRS)

AD 2 LTDA does not publish a Preferential Runway System. The runway in use is selected by Hatay ATC. Check the ATIS (Hatay Information 121.250) for the runway and approach in use.

Things to keep in mind when you plan:

  • Both runway directions have an NDB Z / VOR Z approach (IAC-1 RWY 04, IAC-2 RWY 22). The straight-in OCA is 710 ft for RWY 04 and 650 ft for RWY 22.
  • RWY 04 has a precision approach lighting system (CAT I barette, 900 m) and PAPI 3.3° (left, MEHT 67 ft). RWY 22 has a simple approach lighting system (barette, 420 m) and PAPI 3° (left, MEHT 67 ft).
  • There is no turn pad on the RWY 22 threshold (ADC caution).
  • TWY B4 is the only taxiway shown on the ADC, joining the runway near its midpoint.

Arrival Procedures

Hatay Airport lies inside the Hatay CTR (SFC–FL130). Approach service is provided by Hatay TWR/APP within the CTR and by Ankara ACC outside the CTR. There are no RNAV procedures: the single STAR chart (STAR-1) is conventional, based on the HTY VOR and the Adana VOR (ADA).

  • Non-scheduled traffic: all traffic planning to use the airport other than scheduled traffic must have permission from the airport management at least 6 hours before the flight (AD 2.20).
  • IFR and VFR training traffic is not permitted (AD 2.20).
  • The Turkish/Syrian border must not be violated. The STAR chart shows the closest distance to the border as 9.7 DME on R-145 (145° of the NDB), referenced to the HTY VOR/NDB.
  • Bird flocks in the vicinity of the aerodrome (see Bird Migration).

De-icing

De-icing facilities are available, H24 (AD 2.3/2.4). The AIP does not designate a de-icing area or procedure.

Bird Migration

Hatay Airport lies on the eastern Mediterranean intercontinental bird migration route (İstanbul–Hatay–Israel), used by around 500,000 soaring birds twice a year (85% storks, about 3.5 kg). The AIP (AD 2.23) states:

  • Migration takes place in March, April, May, June, August, September and October; April and September are the densest months.
  • Peak times are 08:00–11:00 and 14:00–17:00 (LMT), when 6 or 7 flocks of 300–2,000 birds are observed over the aerodrome. Between 08:00 and 11:00 (LMT) birds fly below 656 ft.
  • Birds fly low in the morning and high in the afternoon. The average flight height is 3,937 ft, but some species climb to 6,561 ft. Aircraft flying below 6,561 ft might be in danger of collision.
  • Migration decreases in rain and almost stops in bad, windy weather.

Planning Taxi Time

All departures taxi from the apron via TWY B4 to the runway.

ATIS

Hatay Information is broadcast on 121.250 MHz. Always copy the ATIS before calling Ground.
